The Society's venture into electronic communication began in January 2007. Many members of the Society have now acquired access to the Internet and it is entirely appropriate that the Society should widen its scope for communicating to members. In the past, the frequency of communication has necessarily been restricted to an annual newsletter because of cost. Whilst this has been satisfactory as a means of recording historical information and future dates of reunions etc. the lack of immediacy has been a distinct disadvantage. For instance, the cost of announcing a member's passing has generally been prohibitive, except in exceptional circumstances such as the death of LB. Therefore, in future it is anticipated that the Society's web site will be increasingly employed as a major source of information. This will depend entirely on the willingness of Old Derbeians to make significant contributions to its maintenance.
